Special Events at NYCC

January 4

January 4

We will be holding a "Chanting Service" in the main chapel on Sunday, January 4, from 12:30-1:30 pm. The service consists of chants alternating with brief periods of meditative silence. Paramahansa Yogananda encouraged the practice of devotional chanting as an aid to Divine perceptions. He wrote, "Sound or vibration is the most powerful force in the universe." Many devotees find these longer chanting sessions helpful in deepening their meditations. If you plan to attend, please be seated in the chapel by 12:25 pm.

On Monday, January 5, a special service for the birthday of Paramahansa Yogananda will be held from 6:30-8:00 pm. Please bring a flower as a symbol of devotion to God and Guru and a donation may be offered as a sign of loyalty to SRF. Special services are open to SRF students and members, and all those who are drawn to the SRF line of Gurus. After the service, please join us on the third floor for Master’s birthday cake!

A Six-Hour Meditation to commemorate the birth of Paramahansa Yogananda will be held on Saturday, January 10  from 10:00 am-4:00 pm. Please bring a fruit as a symbol of devotion. If you can not be present for the entire day, please plan to attend the first half (10:00 am--1:00 pm). Please note that those arriving after the first period of meditation has begun will be directed to the second floor chapel. Due to this long meditation, the 3-Hour Meditation on Friday, January 9 has been cancelled

Please join us for a day of fellowship and karma yoga, on Saturday, January 31, from 10:00 am-2:00 pm. The day will begin with a short period of meditation followed by time for Seva (service) during which we will undertake several small, light, cleaning projects to beautify our spiritual home. The day will end with another short period of meditation followed by a delicious vegetarian lunch. This is a wonderful opportunity to help out and make new friends! All are welcome!
